Collects the collections of
Baron Enrico Piraino of
Mandralisca. The Sicilian
and foreign objects are
acquired during the various
journeys undertaken by Baron,
a man who knew how to combine
arts and sciences
with an enlightened patronage.
He gave all
his collections to his city, and recommended
to establish a foundation
museum - library and
the establishment of a high school
gymnasium. The
museum is one of the richest,
including private ones, with a library
of 6,000 books.
Among the objects of which
we can admire:
"Portrait of an Unknown Man"
(1465-70), painted -
by Antonello da Messina's masterpiece,
"Christ the Judge" (sixteenth-century
painting) Spanish
Johannes De
Matta, a cabinet of
ebony and rosewood with
1630 ivory inlays, the
bell-shaped crater
with a realistic
scene of tuna seller
(sixth century BC.). |

Picture gallery |

The
current gallery
is the result of the confluence
of two collections, that of
Baron Mandralisca, and
the goodwill. Vincent
Cirincione. The variety
of paintings is an expression of
diverse artistic cultures
and different eras.
Some works
reflect the artistic culture of
the island, others indicate
a type of private collectors,
which is directed, mainly,
to the works
of small size on the initial
target for domestic use.
Of course, the most important piece
is the "Portrait
of an Unknown Man" by Antonello da
Messina Mandralisca
that elevates the collection
at an international level, describing
the art gallery and the entire

| Archeology |

Archaeology was one of the
greatest passions
of Henry Pirajno
of Mandralisca. He himself
effected the excavations
in the necropolis of
the Diana in Lipari
from which most of the
archaeological finds
on display in the Museum,
Other finds come from
archaeological excavations, always by
Barone, Cefalu
in Sicily and elsewhere.
In recent years, the
original collection
has been enriched by other
archaeological finds
in Palermo by Prof.
Amedeo Tullio. |

| Ornithology |
From
this collection comes to us
the knowledge the framework
of a Sicily that there
is no longer with its forests
and rivers.
The birds in this collection are
evidence of the possibility of
a return to repopulate
Sicily with a rich flora
and fauna, should they so wish,
by setting up protected areas,
nature parks. They could
all go back. They
have lived in
these valleys, is a witness to
the great scholar of Mandralisca
Piraino that brought them together
and preserved with love.
We could see again
the golden eagle (Aquila
chrysaetos) cleave the air
with its dynamic
shape while
hunting finches (Fringilla
coelebs) singing in the bushes
of fragrant
wild hedges: the crane (Grus
grus), the short-eared owl
(Asio flammeus),
and the flamingo,
the Firebird of many
legends, which colored the
sky like a flock
at sunset, the kingfisher
(Alcedo atthis).
Although it is a dream, it
could come true. On
this land birds and
people can coexist
in an environment and a
wonderful climate. |
