The
historic center of Cefalu is
dominated by a promontory
260 feet high,
"the Rock". The
oldest evidence of human presence
are found above,
in two caves
("the mare" and "Doves"),
the graffiti with apotropaic value
left by a prehistoric
community. Around the ninth
century BC C.
can be dated with
the tank cover
dolmen known as the
"Temple of Diana", a fence
made of megalithic blocks
with an opening towards the West,
an entrance topped
by a monolithic
lintel finely
molded. Inside, two
rooms with a long corridor.
Of equal interest
to the Byzantine
fortifications and the remains of
several churches
and buildings of the same
period. At the
fortress is accessed
only through a
long stairway, which is why
we recommend, especially in the
summer to equip themselves with
adequate water supply.
Your long climb
will be rewarded
with breathtaking views of the old
town and the coast. |
