Nothing about the historical sources say the first humans to inhabit our territories. Therein lies the difficulty of reconstructing the origins of Cefalu. The first settlements probably developed at the foot of the "Rock" are testimony to the walls of the fortification. The insecurity, the risk of living near the coast will convince the inhabitants, in the Byzantine period, to move their settlements over the "Rock". The shape of the latter will be an inspiration for the name or Kephaloidion Kephaloidios (head) of the city. The most plausible hypothesis for the origin of a population that is not Greek or Punic settlements which occurred in our area but a native who grew up in the center contact of these populations. Diodorus to the Carthaginian general was responsible for the first mention of Kephaloidion in 396 BC C., who had allied with the indigenous people of the walled city. In 307 a. C. was conquered by Agathocles, tyrant of Syracuse in 254 a. C. was taken by the Romans with deception and was reduced to the status of civitas decuman as the Cephaloedium.Go to page: history
